Priming and Filling the Pump

Key steps to help minimize loss of PRIALT at first fill and ensure administration of appropriate dose.6

How to Prime and Fill a Naïve Pump

Step 1: Prime

  • The first time that the pump is used with PRIALT, it must be primed
  • Using a 5-mL syringe, remove 2 mL from the vial of undiluted 25 mcg/mL PRIALT
  • Use only the undiluted PRIALT for naïve pump priming. Set aside the remaining 18 mL in the vial

Step 2: Rinse

  • Attach the syringe to the catheter with a luer lock connector and rinse the internal surfaces of the pump with the 2 mL of undiluted PRIALT
  • Discard the used 2-mL solution after the rinse
  • Repeat this rinse procedure 2 more times─for a total of 3 rinses
  • A naïve pump must be rinsed 3 times in order to prevent a reduction in the dose during the initial fill

Step 3: Fill

  • Using a 20-mL syringe, remove the remaining 14 mL of undiluted PRIALT from the vial
  • Fill the pump with the 14 mL of PRIALT and set the appropriate dose and flow rate. Initiate dosing with PRIALT at a delivery rate no higher than 2.4 mcg per day or 0.1 mcg per hour

On or Before Day 14: Refill

  • Discard the remaining PRIALT in the pump and perform the first pump refill
  • The IT pump should be refilled using a new vial of PRIALT within 14 days of the initial pump fill to help ensure appropriate dose administration
